Pear Tea Caddy
As tea was an expensive commodity, the storage containers used to hold and sometimes mix teas were suitably beautiful and refined. This late 18th century tea caddy, made of fruitwood and pear-shaped, had been damaged and patched badly in the wrong wood, with the patch cut to a poor shape. The previous patch was replaced in the correct wood, matching the grain and annual rings and coloured to match.
The tea caddy is owned by Paul Laidlaw of Laidlaw Auctioneers & Valuers, an expert Auctioneer who has featured on the BBC’s ‘Antiques Road Trip’, ‘Bargain Hunt’ and ‘Flog It!’.
